The panel on "Accountability by Design: Shaping AI Regulations, Platforms, and Critical Digital Infrastructure" at the recent 7th Digital Citizen Summit (DCS) 2025, hosted by Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) in partnership with Centre for Development Policy and Practice (CDPP), highlighted that accountability must be built into artificial intelligence (AI) systems from the earliest stages of design. 

As AI becomes central to India's critical infrastructure, discussions across sectors point to the same conclusion, ie, responsibility cannot be retrofitted.
