Sanchar Saathi Recovers 77,692 Stolen Handsets in July
India, Aug. 29 -- The Department of Telecommunications' Sanchar Saathi platform helped recover 77,692 lost or stolen mobile handsets in July, crossing the 75,000-mark in a single month for the first time since its launch. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said the milestone reflects growing public trust and stronger coordination among stakeholders.
The DoT's Digital Intelligence Unit and field units worked with local police to trace devices and facilitate their return to rightful owners. Monthly handset recoveries increased by 201% between April 2025 and July 2026, highlighting the growing effectiveness of the system.
