India, Sept. 4 -- State-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) reported strong operational and commercial performance in August, with sales rising 13% year-on-year to 1.87 million tonnes. The company also achieved record August production levels in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel, highlighting improving capacity utilisation and continued momentum in India's domestic steel market.

SAIL's crude steel production increased 8% to 1.68 million tonnes, compared with 1.55 million tonnes in the same month last year. Hot metal production rose 9% to 1.78 million tonnes from 1.63 million tonnes, while saleable steel production edged up 1% to 1.69 million tonnes.
