India, May 8 -- Economist and BJP MLA Ashok Kumar Lahiri has assumed charge as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, succeeding Suman Bery, the government think tank announced on Friday.
Lahiri, a former Chief Economic Adviser and member of the 15th Finance Commission, brings extensive experience in economic policy, public finance and institutional governance. NITI Aayog said his expertise will strengthen evidence-based policymaking and support India's long-term development strategy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier congratulated Lahiri on his appointment, expressing confidence that his experience in economics and public policy would contribute to India's reform agenda and the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'.
