Indian Navy Recovers Unexploded Missile Warhead from Merchant Tanker, Safely Disposes Ordnance Near Kochi
India, June 14 -- The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, which had no Indian nationals on board, was en route from Fujairah in the UAE to Kochi when it reported an explosion in its hull while operating off the coast of Oman on May 26, 2026. Despite the incident, the vessel continued its voyage toward Kochi and later informed authorities about the presence of an unexploded ordnance onboard.
Following information received through the Information Fusion Centre - Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), the Indian Navy immediately initiated a coordinated response. The Southern Naval Command, based in Kochi, deployed a specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to assess the situation and neutralize the threat.
