India, March 26 -- India has added 9,566.89 MW of rooftop solar capacity since the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in February 2024, reflecting rapid adoption of decentralised renewable energy solutions, the Government of India said.

According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, installations across one crore households are expected to generate nearly 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity and reduce 720 million tonnes of equivalent emissions over a 25-year lifecycle.

The scheme is also projected to create around 17 lakh jobs across manufacturing, logistics, supply chains, installation, operations and maintenance, and financial services, highlighting its broader economic impact.
