India, Sept. 1 -- India's GST collections rose 14.8% year-on-year to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in August 2026, reflecting continued strength in tax revenues and a sharp increase in collections from imports. According to provisional government data released on Tuesday, gross Goods and Services Tax revenue stood at Rs 1,99,853 crore, compared with Rs 1,74,116 crore recorded in August last year.

Although the August figure was lower than the Rs 2.11 lakh crore GST collection recorded in July 2026, the year-on-year growth remained strong. The expansion was primarily driven by a significant increase in GST revenue from imports, which surged 29% to Rs 62,604 crore.
