India, July 28 -- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has proposed extending the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) validity for BS-VI private vehicles up to six years old from one year to three years. The draft rules also introduce stricter testing intervals for older and higher-emission vehicles to improve air quality.

Key Highlights BS-VI private vehicles up to six years old may get 3-year PUCC validity. BS-VI commercial vehicles up to six years old to receive 2-year PUCC validity. BS-IV vehicles will require PUCC renewal every six months. BS-I, BS-II and BS-III vehicles must renew PUCC every three months under the proposed rules.
