Chennai Metro Phase 2 : PM Modi and CM Vijay Flag Off First Train
India, Oct. 11 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday flagged off the first train on the Chennai Metro Phase 2 network at Porur Bypass Road Metro station. The inauguration marked a significant step in expanding Chennai's urban transport infrastructure and improving public connectivity.
The newly constructed Poonamallee-Vadapalani corridor, developed at a cost of Rs 750 crore, will serve 11 stations in the initial phase of operations. Before boarding the train, PM Modi purchased a ticket using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), demonstrating the availability of digital payments for Metro commuters.
