India, May 2 -- The government on Saturday reported steady expansion in Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure, with 5.96 lakh connections gasified and facilities created for an additional 2.68 lakh connections, taking the total capacity to 8.64 lakh.

Customer additions remain strong, with around 6.66 lakh new registrations. As of May 1, over 43,350 consumers have shifted from LPG to PNG, indicating a growing preference for pipeline-based fuel.

In the LPG segment, more than 22.78 lakh 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders have been sold since April 2026. Public sector oil marketing companies have conducted over 9,980 awareness camps since April 3, driving sales of more than 1.71 lakh 5-kg cylinders.
