India, Feb. 13 -- The Defence Ministry of India signed a Rs 2,312 crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for eight Dornier 228 aircraft tailored for the Indian Coast Guard.

This agreement is anticipated to enhance employment and support MSMEs. It aligns with the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and 'Make in India' campaign, reinforcing maritime security. Concurrently, HAL announced a 29.6% increase in its Q3 FY26 net profit, reaching Rs 1,866.66 crore.

In a broader strategy, India plans to invest Rs 65,400 crore to develop fighter jet engines by 2035 and invites private participation in this endeavor, aiming for self-reliance in aircraft propulsion.
