Centre Asks States to Speed Up LPG-to-PNG Household Switch
India, Aug. 24 -- The Centre has asked states and Union Territories to provide district-level administrative support to speed up the transition from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG) in households where pipeline infrastructure is available. Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal said PNG offers a safer and cleaner cooking fuel while reducing the logistics burden associated with LPG distribution.
The Petroleum Ministry has also sought district-level intervention to implement a regulatory framework preventing households from retaining both LPG and PNG connections in areas where piped gas is available. The move is intended to improve utilisation of city gas distribution infrastructure and support India's broader energy transition.
