India, March 10 -- The World health Organisation (WHO) has expressed concern over the possible presence of lead in turmeric produced in Odisha. The organisation has initiated discussions with the state Health Department to conduct sample testing and determine the actual level of lead presence.

If the state government approves the proposal, a detailed survey will be carried out in Odisha to examine turmeric samples. The study will help determine whether turmeric grown in certain districts contains lead and whether the quantity exceeds permissible limits.

Survey Likely in Three Districts According to sources in the Health Department, the proposed survey may be conducted in Kandhamal, Ganjam and Cuttack districts.
