India, Sept. 28 -- Efforts to find an amicable settlement to the Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh are gaining momentum, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah set to chair a meeting in New Delhi on October 1. The Chief Ministers of both states will attend the meeting.

Odisha Advocate General Pitambar Acharya informed about the meeting and said it would help advance discussions between the two states on the sharing of Mahanadi waters.

Meanwhile, the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal has scheduled its next hearing in the water-sharing dispute for October 15.

Acharya said the Secretary of the Central Water Commission (CWC) submitted the report to the tribunal on Monday in compliance with its directive.
