India, Oct. 2 -- A trackman was killed after being hit by a train while carrying out track maintenance work near Podapadar on the outskirts of Chhatrapur in Odisha's Ganjam district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as K. Gobinda Patra, a resident of the Khallikote area.

According to reports, Patra was among a group of trackmen conducting a routine inspection and maintenance check on the railway tracks at around 10 am when the train struck him. He died on the spot due to the impact.

The Government Railway Police have recovered the body for post-mortem and started an investigation into the incident.
