India, Oct. 15 -- Biswajit Sahu of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) has been elected as the president of the students' union of Ravenshaw University in Odisha's Kataka city.

Biswajit defeated his nearest ABVP rival to bag the students' union president post. The student union polls were conducted on Thursday.

BCJD's victory in the prestigious Ravenshaw University assumes significance as it had faced a stiff challenge from the ABVP and other students' outfit in the polls.

It is worth mentioning here that two groups of students had clashed on the premises of the varsity soon after the 'Why I Stand For' meeting on Wednesday.

The administration had deployed police personnel on the varsity campus to maintain law and order.
