India, Oct. 15 -- Bhubaneswar:Swadhin Kumar Acharya of the ABVP has been elected as the president of the students' union of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Sambalpur for the 2026-27 academic session. The university announced the provisional results of the students' union elections on Thursday.

Sanket Sahu was elected vice-president, while Nikhil Agrawal won the post of general secretary.

In the election for president, Swadhin Kumar Acharya secured 82 votes to defeat his nearest rival, Karanmay Sahu, who received 76 votes. Priyabhadra S. Prusty polled four votes. Swadhin won by a margin of six votes, with a total of 164 votes cast for the post.
