India, Oct. 2 -- A significant milestone has been achieved in the Kottavalasa-Koraput doubling project with the successful breakthrough of Tunnel No. 41-41A, located between Borra Guhalu and Karakavalasa stations in the Rayagada Division of East Coast Railway.

The breakthrough was achieved on October 1 with 100 per cent accuracy in alignment, marking an important step forward in the ongoing doubling project. The tunnel, having a total length of 829 metres, has been constructed in a horseshoe shape along an alignment extending up to an 8-degree curve. The breakthrough was achieved in the Borra Guhalu-Karakavalasa block section.
