India, Oct. 6 -- Odisha's Puri town recorded its second-highest October day temperature in 130 years on Monday, with the mercury rising to 36.6 degree C.

The temperature recorded on October 5 surpassed the previous second-highest October temperature of 36.3C, recorded on October 4, 2024.

The latest reading highlights an unusual rise in daytime temperatures in Puri during October. Weather data collected over nearly 130 years shows that the coastal town has rarely experienced such high temperatures during the month.

October generally marks a transition in weather conditions as the southwest monsoon gradually withdraws. However, the unusually high daytime temperature recorded in Puri this year has raised concerns among residents.
