Odisha Police ASI convicted in bribery case; dismissal likely
India, July 30 -- A Vigilance court today convicted an official of the Odisha Police in a bribery case and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
The Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack convicted Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Athagarh police station, Amiya Kumar Behera, in the bribery case.
The case had been registered against Behera for demanding and accepting bribe from a person during his tenure as the ASI at Jenapur police station in Jajpur.
The ASI had allegedly sought bribe from the person concerned to show undue favours to him in a case of crime.
The accused police officer was earlier charge sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under various Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act-1988.
