India, March 10 -- Tension flared as irate villagers stated a protest following the death of a youth over alleged police harassment in Nimapara in Odisha's Puri district here today.

The deceased, identified as Subrata Bhoi was a resident of Dihabari area under Nimapara. He was found hanging from a tree in a village field in the morning.

Family members alleged that police had earlier picked him up in connection with a minor girl abduction case. They accused the police of subjecting Subrata to harassment, claiming he was unable to bear the alleged torture and subsequently died by suicide.
