India, Sept. 13 -- A police constable was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked by a group of drug peddlers during a raid near College Chhak in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district.

The injured constable has been identified as Nityananda Senapati. He was rushed to the Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, police received a tip-off that a group involved in the drug trade was travelling in a vehicle near College Chhak. Acting on the information, a police team conducted a raid in the area.

During the operation, the drug traffickers attacked Senapati, leaving him seriously injured.

Police managed to apprehend two of the drug traffickers, while three others fled the spot.
