India, Aug. 24 -- Tesla Inc. is recalling around 3 million vehicles in China citing safety concerns with hidden door handles. The recall is part of a mass effort in the country, in which eight other automakers, including XPeng Inc., Xiaomi Corp. and Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd., join to call back a total of 4.3 million vehicles over concerns that doors may be difficult to open in an emergency.
In the early morning trading on Nasdaq, Tesla shares were losing around 2.78%, trading at $352.79.
The hidden emergency door releases, which is a signature feature of electric vehicles or EVs, cause occupants, especially children, to trap inside the car in the event of a crash or a fire.
