India, Oct. 1 -- After an attempt to execute Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike by two lethal injections failed, Governor Bill Lee halted the remaining executions in the state for the rest of the year.

Gov. Bill Lee said he has ordered for a "comprehensive, third-party review to determine exactly what occurred" during Christa Pike's attempted execution.

Lee said that "carrying out a lawfully imposed sentence is among the State's most serious responsibilities, and the people of Tennessee expect it to be done in a manner that is not only legal and constitutional, but is effective."
