India, June 30 -- The U.S. Supreme Court, in a landmark ruling on Monday, upheld President Donald Trump's firing of Democratic Federal Trade Commission member Rebecca Slaughter, saying the President has the power to remove the leaders of independent federal agencies.

In the 6-3 majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts said, "Subordinates who exercise the president's power are subject to removal by him. Then, and only then, can they remain accountable to the president, and the president to the people."
