India, June 23 -- Spain's foreign trade deficit increased in April from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, preliminary data from the Economy Ministry showed on Tuesday.

The trade deficit widened to EUR 5.2 billion in April from EUR 3.9 billion in the corresponding month last year. In March, there was a shortfall of EUR 4.4 billion.

Exports climbed 5.8 percent annually in April, and imports were 8.7 percent higher. The country exported 26.3 percent more energy products, while imports of the same increased by 32.2 percent from a year earlier.
