India, Sept. 18 -- Novartis AG (NVS), a pharmaceutical company, on Friday reported receiving a positive opinion from the Centre for Human use of Medicinal Products (CHMP) for Cosentyx in the treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica.

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is an inflammatory rheumatic disease common in adults aged 50 years or older. The disorder is characterized by acute pain and stiffness in the shoulders, neck, and hips, and is generally treated with steroids. However, steroid use is linked to severe side effects like diabetes and osteoporosis, with about 40% showing relapses within a year.
