India, July 8 -- A new study has found that men are much more likely than women to be diagnosed with cancer at a later stage, when the disease has already spread and is harder to treat.
"It is important to better understand how stage may differ between sexes as a way to explain sex differences in cancer mortality and to identify potential intervention points to improve cancer survival for everyone," lead author Dr. Beth Maclin said.
The study, presented by researchers from the National Cancer Institute and published by the American Association for Cancer Research, analyzed data from more than 2.4 million cancer patients in the United States.
