India, June 21 -- Jon Bon Jovi says he has fully recovered following vocal cord surgery that once threatened his career.

In a new interview with People, Bon Jovi gave fans a health update.

"I'm fully recovered," he said. "It was longer than I'd ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith."

The 64-year-old singer-songwriter and guitarist added that he spent years working with vocal coaches and doing vocal exercises to bring his voice back.

He also praised his bandmates, who waited four years for another tour to give the Bon Jovi frontman time to recuperate.
