India, Aug. 5 -- Shares of Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (GTE) are surging above 50 percent on Wednesday morning after the company returned to profit in the second quarter and announced the sale of its oil business in Colombia and Ecuador to Etablissements Maurel & Prom S.A. for $1.33 billion.

The company's shares are currently trading at $10.33 on the NYSE American, gaining 51.17 percent in the latest session. The stock opened at $10.33 and touched an intraday high of $11.52. Over the past 12 months, the shares have traded between $3.09 and $11.52.
