India, Aug. 21 -- General Motors Co. (GM) said on Friday that the U.S. regulators have launched an engineering analysis into about 997,743 of its vehicles after reports of engine failure even following recall remedies.

The probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation or ODI covers GM models from 2021 to 2026 equipped with the L87 engine.

The investigation follows Recall Query RQ26001, opened in January 2026, to assess the effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. GM had cited a supplier manufacturing and quality issue as the root cause of failures in engines produced between March 2021 and May 2024.
