India, Oct. 22 -- Gavi and UNICEF have reached an agreement to reduce the price of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine, marketed as Mosquirix, by about 40%, a move expected to save approximately $50 million between 2027 and 2029.

Mosquirix, originally developed by GSK plc (GSK) and now being transitioned to Bharat Biotech for future supply, is one of two World Health Origanzation recommended malaria vaccines for children.

Malaria remains a major cause of illness and death among children, particularly in Africa, where most malaria-related deaths occur.

Under the agreement, the vaccine price will fall to EUR 5.50 per dose, subject to regulatory and manufacturing milestones. The lower price is expected to take effect in early 2027.
