India, Sept. 30 -- Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. (CALM), a producer and distributor of shell eggs, Wednesday reported a first-quarter loss, compared with a profit a year ago, primarily due to lower sales.
The company's shares were down more than 6% in pre-market trading after closing at $68.55 on Tuesday.
Cal-Maine Foods posted a loss of $58.62 million, or $1.26 per share compared with income of $199.34 million, or $4.12 per share, a year ago.
Operating loss was $82.17 million, compared with operating income of $249.18 million in the prior-year quarter.

Net sales fell 41.5% to $539.61 million from $922.60 million last year.
