India, April 7 -- The Australian stock market is maintaining its early sharp gains in mid-market moves on Wednesday, extending the gains in the previous session, with the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 moving above the 8,950 level, following the mixed cues from Wall Street overnight, with gains across most sectors led by mining and technology stocks. Energy stocks were the only weak spot.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index is gaining 229.30 points or 2.63 percent to 8,958.10, after touching a high of 8,986.10 earlier. The broader All Ordinaries Index is up 244.20 points or 2.74 percent to 9,165.40. Australian stocks ended sharply higher on Tuesday.
