India, Sept. 18 -- Amneal Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMRX), a biopharmaceutical company, on Friday announced receiving approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Lanreotide injection, a generic version of SOMATULINE Depot.
SOMATULINE Depot is a formulation of lanreotide that received FDA approval in August 2007 for the treatment of acromegaly, advanced gastro-enteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs), and carcinoid syndrome. The drug was originally developed by Ipsen Pharma S.A.S. (IPN.PA).
Lanreotide works by controlling hormone levels in acromegaly, improves progression-free survival in GEP-NETs, and reduces the need for rescue therapies in patients with carcinoid syndrome.
