France, Sept. 1 -- Teachers returned to work on Monday to prepare for la rentree - France's annual back-to-school return after the summer holidays - but digital services remain restricted in parts of the country as students return Tuesday, following a data breach first detected in late July.

The Education Ministry revealed on 31 July that the breach had been identified six days earlier. In mid-August, hackers claimed to have obtained the personal data of tens of thousands of teachers and pupils.

Access to a number of digital tools was subsequently suspended as a precaution, adding an extra layer of difficulty for headteachers preparing for the return of pupils.
