France's school uniform experiment unravels with only mixed results
France, Sept. 6 -- Research found strong opposition among students, while evidence of better academic results, less bullying or fewer social divisions remained limited.
Education Minister Edouard Geffray confirmed in late August that the opt-in scheme would not continue nationally when schools reopened for the 2026-2027 academic year.
"It is neither a failure nor a waste. But the experiment showed that its overall effect was fairly limited," Geffray told local reporters. "We did not see particularly clear changes in academic results. As for the school environment, the effects were quite uneven."
