Nepal, July 27 -- Veteran journalist and press freedom fighter Arjun Gyawali died on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at B and B Hospital in Kathmandu. He was 80.

Gyawali, who had been battling heart and lung ailments for a long time, breathed his last at 8:40 pm, according to his son, Sagar Gyawali.

Originally from Chidika in Arghakhanchi, Gyawali later settled in Shankarnagar of Tilottama, Rupandehi.

A retired teacher, he taught Nepali for many years at Shanti Model Secondary School in Manigram before devoting himself to journalism. He also served as editor of the weekly Lumbini Sandesh and trained aspiring journalists.
