Nepal, Oct. 3 -- Nepal imported over 106 million kilograms of paddy and rice worth Rs 5.61 billion in the first two months of the current Fiscal Year (FY).

The records with the Department of Customs (DoC) show that the agrarian country purchased a large quantity of the staple food from abroad in the review period. The government collected more than Rs 420.4 million in customs revenue under the heading.

Of the imported amounts, paddy accounted for the largest share of 54.4 percent in terms of the total imported quantity as the proportion stood at 38.2 percent in terms of the import expenses of these agricultural products. In the review period, the country imported 57.69 million kgs of paddy of Rs 2.14 billion.
