Nepal, July 13 -- The Department of Passports (DoP) has announced the successful completion of what it describes as the largest data migration in Nepal's history and has launched passport services through a new passport production and management system.

According to the department, passport records of around 10 million Nepali citizens have been securely migrated to the new system, which came into operation on July 13.

The department said it is natural to encounter technical challenges, slower system performance and temporary delays in passport issuance during the initial phase of implementing and going live with such a large-scale information technology system.
