Nepal, March 29 -- The commitment comes amid growing concerns over large sums of money being stuck in troubled cooperatives, particularly affecting small and micro-level depositors. The issue has had wider implications on the country's financial circulation and public trust in the cooperative sector.
The government has announced that it will begin the process of refunding deposits to small savers in cooperatives within 100 days, as part of its recently unveiled 100-point reform agenda.
The provision has been incorporated in line with the election manifesto of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which had pledged to address the cooperative crisis and ensure protection of small depositors.
