At least Rs 30 billion needed to rebuild flood-damaged roads, bridges
Nepal, Sept. 1 -- The Department of Roads has made an initial estimate that at least Rs 30 billion will be needed to reconstruct and repair roads and bridges damaged by the Bhotekoshi flood.
According to Department of Roads Director General Dr. Bijay Jaisi, the department has already begun the reconstruction process.
"We have started a detailed assessment of the damage," Jaisi said.
According to the department, 35 of the 41 bridges between the Miteri Bridge in Rasuwa and Malekhu in Dhading were damaged by the flood. Of these, 32 were completely destroyed, and three suffered partial damage. Six bridges remain intact, allowing people to travel between the two banks of the Trishuli River, the department said.
