Nigeria, July 2 -- Despite receiving N10.08 billion in statutory allocations in 19 months, the Mkpat Enin Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom State faces questions over the poor condition of its legislative building and other public facilities, amid concerns about fiscal transparency and accountability.

An inspection by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs recently exposed the deteriorating state of the council's legislative block, poor surroundings, poor sanitation and what lawmakers described as signs of weak institutional maintenance.
