Nigeria, Oct. 21 -- President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of elder statesman and foremost leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, who died on Tuesday at 100.

In a tribute he personally signed in Abuja on Tuesday, President Tinubu commiserated with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom, the government and people of Ondo State and South-west Nigeria, and the entire Afenifere family.

He described Fasoranti as an icon of principle and one of the last great figures in Obafemi Awolowo's progressive political tradition.

He said the deceased remained committed to true federalism, social justice and a Nigeria that worked for all.
