Nigeria opposes Macky Sall's bid for UN top job, gives reasons
Nigeria, April 7 -- Nigeria formally objected to former Senegalese President Macky Sall's bid to become the United Nations Secretary-General, opposing a move to have him adopted as the African Union's candidate. Nigeria faulted a push in the African Union to adopt Mr Sall, saying the process is procedurally flawed and inconsistent with established diplomatic norms.
In a Note Verbale addressed to the African Union Commission, Nigeria's Embassy in Ethiopia and Permanent Mission to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) said the nomination was handled in a manner that violated the rules and principles that govern such decisions.
