Nigeria, Nov. 3 -- The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared former senator Tijjani Kaura winner of its rerun primary for Zamfara North Senatorial District, following violence at voting centres and discrepancies in the published results.

Mr Kaura defeated incumbent senator Sahabi Ya'u and former governorship candidate Sani Shinkafi in Monday's election, held after the Court of Appeal upheld the nullification of the party's earlier primary.

According to LEADERSHIP, the returning officer, Sani Abdullahi, announced the result in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

He said Mr Kaura polled 16,758 votes, while Mr Ya'u received 1,465 votes and Mr Shinkafi secured 1,447 votes.
