Independence Anniversary: Governor pardons inmates, commutes death sentences
Nigeria, Oct. 1 -- Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has granted an absolute pardon to 130 inmates as part of activities marking Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary.
Mr Mutfwang also commuted the death sentences of four inmates to life imprisonment, according to a statement issued on Thursday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
The governor exercised the powers after consultations with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, the statement said.
The four inmates whose death sentences were commuted to life imprisonment are Zuhumnan Musa, Jeremiah Aese, Pam Lang and Thoma Danboyi.
