Nigeria, Oct. 7 -- The Super Eagles have suffered a significant setback in the latest FIFA Men's World Ranking, dropping four places to 30th in the world following a disappointing September international window.

Nigeria, who occupied 26th position in the previous ranking, were punished for their mixed results in the opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The three-time African champions began the qualifying series with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo but were brought crashing back to earth days later after Guinea-Bissau handed them a heavy 3-0 defeat.

The contrasting results have now seen Nigeria lose four places globally, while their position on the African continent has also taken a major hit.
