CSOs demand probe of TikTok blackout in Northern Nigeria
Nigeria, Oct. 6 -- A coalition of 12 civil society organisations (CSOs) has called on the federal government, telecom regulators, and TikTok to address an unexplained disruption affecting the social media platform in parts of northern Nigeria.
In a joint press statement, the coalition raised alarms over a "multi-week digital blackout" that began as intermittent access difficulties around 14 September.
The outage has primarily impacted users in Kaduna, Kebbi, Kano, and Sokoto states.
Preliminary investigations by the groups reveal that millions of citizens reliant on the platform for their livelihoods are struggling to load contents, view videos, or upload media via standard mobile data connections.
