Nigeria, Oct. 5 -- The police have arrested a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aminu Warkal, for allegedly displaying a firearm at a political event in the state.

Mr Warkal was filmed firing shots into the air during a political rally in the Janbulo area of Gwale Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson in Kano, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said in a statement that officers on routine cyber patrol intercepted a viral video clip showing Mr Warkal flaunting what appears to be a pump-action rifle in front of a crowd.

Mr Kiyawa said the action contravenes the Firearms Act and threatens public safety.
